Job Description

A vacancy for a Integration Manager (d/m/w) Weapon Systems has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space in Manching. The successful applicant will join Eurofighter Avionics Manager & SUZ.

  • The future holder (m/f) of this position within the Centre of Competence Weapon Systems is responsible for the management, execution and delivery of his respective programmes. His responsibilities include planning and coordination of internal resources for their area of responsibility as well as the external interfacing with all the external customer and industrial agencies, partner companies, Airbus PMOs and Chief Engineering departments and other CoCs to allow seamless execution of their programmes and delivery of the contractual deliverables in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • It is the general role of the Integration Managers Weapon Systems to provide technical coordination among the disciplines within the CoC Weapon Systems and assure consistency of the adopted technical solutions during the different programme phases (design, development, certification, qualification, and continued airworthiness).
  • They follow up, monitor and control the teams within the CoC to ensure the achievement of programme objectives in terms of time, cost and quality. Acting as Points of Contact of the CoC with all other stakeholders of the programme both internally and externally (Airworthiness, Product and Flight Safety, Programs, Production, Customer Services, Planning and Control, Finance, Commercial, EF, Panavia, Ops/TAST Community, EPCs/PPCs, Customers), they define the extent of the technical activities to be performed for each programme, the budget and plan within the CoC area of responsibility.
  • The Integration Managers Weapon Systems represent the CoC in the technical review meetings and report progress of the programme and budget adherence to Programme Management and Chief Engineering. You liaise with Chief Engineering and/or Programme Management functions in order for them to support the task execution.
  • You are in charge of military avionics and armament for a number of weapon systems with a high functional and non-functional complexity and integration density. They act within multi-national multi-disciplinary project that requires profound technical, technological as well as managerial and cultural knowledge.
  • You lead their respective local project teams of 20-40 engineers for major development programmes and continually negotiate the need for qualified engineers with the line management in an often under resourced environment.
  • You are responsible establishing and maintaining a detailed programme plan for their projects including an accurate resourcing plan. You liaise with the Cross Programme Manager to jointly achieve the best overall solution for all programme strands.
  • You are familiar with, and trained to the most recent software and system development methodologies, e.g. Agile, such that they can lead the team most effectively, e.g. assume the role of a product owner.
  • You perform costings for any new engineering projects. You usually take over Engineering Bid Leads for avionics or armament inclined new projects.
  • In meetings with other partner companies and suppliers they are fully empowered to make programme and technical content decisions for Airbus. When meeting the external customers (Nations) they successfully negotiate the technical content and specification for new contracts and acquire new business, with some assistance from PMOs.
  • You maintain close links to the air forces in order to get feedback on their products. You interact with the National Support Centres for mutual support.

The future holder of the position reports to the leader of the team Integration Management Weapon Systems and to the head of the CoC.

Preparedness for frequent travel in Europe is a pre-requisite.

  • University degree in aerospace engineering or comparable
  • Many years of experience in the field of engineering
  • Military background as a technical officer of an air force is very beneficial, but not condition
  • IT Literacy (Microsoft Tools or similar) is a prerequisite.
  • English fluent
